ROGER SIMIAN: In the early '90s Grant Pringle, Mike Small and I had a 3-piece band called CRUNCHY JOSEPH. When Paul Vickers moved up to Galashiels from England to work on SUN ZOOM SPARK magazine (around '94), we collaborated on some songs with him (including early versions of 'RADARS' and 'FLOAT ON A RAFT', which later appeared on DOTR's debut album). 'ROPE TRICKS' was one that we were all pleased with. Mike usually played bass but Grant came up with the wonky bass-line for this 'un, so he played it on the recording. This was the same line-up - plus Donald Kyle on bass and spectacles - that recorded all the eastwest DOTR stuff.
